Details & Programme
This BCI Introduction to Business Continuity course provides delegates with the basic knowledge and understanding of the building blocks required for developing or maintaining a business continuity management (BCM) programme.
This one day course comes complete with course slides and a workbook that contains exercises to be completed throughout the course. The course is based on the Good Practice Guidelines 2018 and reflects current International Standards in business continuity.
Delegates will require a copy of the Good Practice Guidelines 2018 for this course, as it is the required reading. Pre-reading prior to attending the course is advisable.
Course Modules
- Module 1 - What is business continuity?
This module aims to provide delegates with an understanding of what business continuity is and how it adds value to organisations.
- Module 2 - An overview of the business continuity management lifecycle
This module aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the business continuity management lifecycle.
- Module 3 - Policy and Programme Management
This module explores the business continuity policy as described in the Good Practice Guidelines 2018 and ISO 22301.
- Module 4 - Embedding
This module looks at how to embed business continuity into your organisation.
- Module 5 - Business Impact Analysis
This module describes how the BIA helps to work out prioritised activities.
- Module 6 - The Design Stage
This module explores how to design and select solutions.
- Module 7 - Implementation
This module looks at how to develop incident response and business continuity plans.
- Module 8 - Validation - Part 1
This module looks at how to deliver an exercise to ensure business continuity plans will work as anticipated.
- Module 9 - Validation - Part 2
This module looks at how to review the business continuity programme.
- Module 10 - Bringing it all together
This module aims to provide delegates with a summary of what has been covered on this introductory course.
Required Reading
Delegates will require a copy of the Good Practice Guidelines 2018 for this course. Pre-reading prior to attending the course is advisable.

By the end of the BCI Introduction to Business Continuity course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain the key elements of Policy & Programme Management (objectives, scope, governance, roles and responsibilities)
- Describe the challenges of embedding business continuity and methods to raise awareness
- Describe the four types of BIA and risk and threat assessments
- Explain the five types of design solutions and strategies
- Discuss how the agreed solutions can be implemented and documented in business continuity plans
- State the five types of exercises used to validate business continuity plans
